4 Ways to Prevent a Drain Line Backup

Avoid a future backup with these simple tips!

Drain line cleaning is a necessary part of your restaurant or business' waste management plan, but every once in a while things get flushed that shouldn't have, and grease builds up if your trap isn't working properly. If you're a restaurant or business owner, you know the panic and frustration that quickly sets in when you're experiencing a septic or grease backup, so today we're sharing our top four backup-prevention tips. Already experiencing signs of a backup or clog? Contact us today for all your Lancaster drain line cleaning services and needs.

  1. Watch what you flush!
The easiest way to prevent a main line backup at your restaurant or business is to make sure your patrons aren't flushing items they shouldn't be in your bathrooms. Make sure your bathrooms have septic-friendly toilet paper and patrons have trashcans available for feminine products, paper towels and other items they may be tempted to flush. Hang a sign as a reminder if necessary.

  2. Make sure your food prep and wash sinks are tied into a trap.
Regardless of the types of food you prepare, this will help prevent food particles, grease and debris from going down the drain. Train your staff to dump food waste and grease from pots/pans and dishes into the trash – not down the drain. This will make dish washing easier too!

  3. Have your grease trap serviced regularly.
If you're not on a regular maintenance plan, contact us to set one up. We offer drain line cleaning services in Lancaster, Pa and the surrounding areas including York, Dauphin, Lebanon, Berks and Chester counties.

  4. Ensure your trap is the right size for your business.
If your business has grown or your menu has changed but your kitchen has not, make sure your trap can handle the amount of waste you’re producing. If you’re not sure how to check, ask one of our friendly technicians. We’re happy to review your kitchen and your trap to make sure everything is functioning properly.

Follow these guidelines and rest assured a backup is highly unlikely to effect your restaurant or business. When you find yourself in need of line opening services in Lancaster, Pa, give us a call. We are happy to offer frequent service discounts and we can often beat your current rates.
